A Collection of Finger Plays and Action Songs
Kids love to sing and dance and here are a few finger plays and songs to teach your little one verbal, listening, and fine motor and gross motor skills in a fun way.
Finger Plays
- Tommy thumbs up, Tommy thumbs down
- Tommy thumbs dancing all around the town
- Dance them on your shoulders, dance them on your head
- Dance them on your knees and tuck them into bed.
- Five little chickadees peeping at the door
- One flew away, and then there were four
- Four little chickadees sitting on a tree
- One flew away, and then there were three
- Three little chickadees looking at you
- One flew away and then there were two
- Two little chickadees sitting in the sun
- One flew away, and then there was one
- One little chickadee left all alone
- One flew away, and then there were none.
- I am a little busy bee, buzzing in the clover.
- Here I go, there I go, all the wide world over.
- Buzzzzzzzz, buzzzzzz, buzzzzzz.
- (Your little one says buzz while pretending to be a bee).
- (Your little one pretends they are sleeping on the floor until the song says wake up little bunnies and they hop around the room).
- See the sleeping bunnies
- Sleeping till its noon
- Can you wake the bunnies with a merry tune?
- Oh, so still, are they ill
- Wake up little bunnies
- (Hop little bunnies hopping hopping, hop little bunnies hop hop hop) 2x hop and stop.
- You can also sing:
- See the sleeping crocodiles (snap snap snap)
- See the elephants (stomp stomp stomp)
- Be creative; make up other animal verses with your little one(s)!

Continue the song using: Peter pointer, Toby tall, Ruby ring and Baby finger in place of Tommy thumbs for each verse.
Five Little Chickadees
(Hold up five fingers and bend them down, one at a time as verse progresses).
